As reported by Irish Central, the most recent report from Ireland’s Central Statistics office reveal that over 3,000 Irish people are emigrating from the country every month, the highest rate since the Famine.

Around 76,000 people emigrated from Ireland during the year leading up to April, which includes around 40,000 Irish nationals. In spite of the staggering numbers leaving the country, CSO statisticians explain that many of those leaving are not Irish citizens.

CSO data reveal that 42,300 people relocated to Ireland during the past twelve months, with nearly half of those people returning to Ireland after their 12-month visas expired in various countries around the world, including Australia. Around 8,400 people relocated to Ireland from Britain and the EU member nations. Another 7,900 originated from other nations throughout the globe.

The rate of those leaving Irish shores has doubled during the past two years, according to an independent report. New data show that around 111 Irish people are now leaving Ireland each day. Deirdre Cullen, who works for CSO, said only the 1800s saw levels as high as this.
The majority of those leaving are relocating to English speaking nations such as the UK, Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand.
