2011 saw rise in Estonia immigration and emigration
Similarly to other years, more females were exiting the country, while more males were moving in, the figures show. The vast majority of native Estonians who left the country in 2011, 3,600, moved to Finland. The second most favorite destination was the UK, receiving over 700 Estonians last year - a number more than double than of 2010.
Most immigrants relocating to Estonia were from Finland and Russia, which each brought in around 1,200 residents in 2011. Another 200 from each country came from the Ukraine and the United States.
Internal migration data remained stable last year, rising by only 3% compared to 2010’s figures. In total, 38,544 Estonians moved counties, cities and municipalities within Estonia.
The migration data are based on figures from the Population Registry.
