New Zealand announces nationwide provider centres for settlement advice

In an attempt to improve its settlement services to new immigrants, the New Zealand immiration authority is to introduce a raft of settlement services through its citizens’ advice bureaux.

The long-established Citizens’ Advice network is widespread across the country, and will be tasked with giving settlement information to new migrants on a face-to-face basis. According to Immigration New Zealand’s General Manager Steve McGill, the organisation offers the perfect set-up for help and advice right in the heart of every major community.

McGill announced the formation of 30 outlets giving coverage in most regions, including seven located in Auckland, three in Christchurch and six in various regional areas. He added that new immigrants using the service would have the best opportunity to connect with local communities and receive the help they need to become successfully integrated at home and at work.

The scheme is part of an effort by immigration to ensure those skilled professionals who choose New Zealand as their new home will be effective in their workplaces and happy to remain in the country. In addition to the new centres, the scheme’s new website will give all details necessary including immigration and settlement advice by email and phone on a six-day, 12-hour daily basis.
