Britons in Singapore unhappy about parliamentary Brexit chaos
This week’s parliamentary chaos has stunned the world, especially as Brits have a reputation for being cool and calm in the face of impending disaster. British expatriates in Singapore are as confused as those directly affected in EU member states, with the majority simply hoping the entire Brexit issue is a nightmare from which they’ll soon wake up. Many expats in Singapore have lived and worked in the city state for several decades and consider it their long-term home, but they’re now anxious as to the effect of a no-deal exit on their jobs and lifestyles as well as being apprehensive about the damage likely to be caused to their home country.
Britons working in Singapore’s selection of UK-based finance and banking companies believe Brexit is simply a ghastly mistake and should never have been taken seriously. They’re fully aware of the financial consequences of both the option of leaving the UK under the present agreement and the spectre of a no-deal Brexit, both of which will cause a massive ripple in the markets. Nothing good, they say, will come of it, even after years of adjustment. In addition, many Brits believe a second referendum would produce a totally different result than the first, as a majority of British citizens are now aware they were all part of a political manoeuvre rather than a serious attempt to gauge the feelings of the general public by offering information rather than spin and fake news.
